[John M. Martin (1925-1993)]. 1952-1976.

This collection contains a variety of miscellaneous papers, reports, and correspondence from Dr. John M. Martin's tenure at West Georgia College, 1957-1977. In addition to being the Chairman of the Social Science Division, Dean of the Graduate School, and Vice-President and Dean of Academic Affairs, he served on several committees and was often invited to off campus events. Martin was well-connected to a wide-variety of campus life events during his career at West Georgia and his papers reflect this.

John Milton Martin was born June 24, 1925 in Calhoun County, Alabama, the son of Samuel Ulysses Martin and Brazora Missouri (Calhoun) Martin. He graduated from high school in Ohatchee, Alabama, received B.S. and B.A. degrees from Jacksonville State University, a M.A. degree in History from the University of Alabama, and a Ph.D. in History from the University of North Carolina.
